'Whole Histories'
Keeping the stories alive

Friday 2 to Sunday 4 March 2018

St Clement's Retreat and Conference Centre, Galong

An event not to be missed!

Our Whole Histories conference held in April 2017 was such a success that we have decided to continue the theme in March 2018.

It was evident from discussions during the 2017 conference that most historical and family history societies are facing the same issues of declining and aging memberships, tussles wirth technology, funding and numerous other problems related to ensuring the longevity of their various groups.

In an ever changing world the pursuit and recording of history is also changing but will museums, archives, historical and family history groups of today survive the pressures of such rapid change and declining memberships? During the weekend our speakers will address this and other aspects of keeping history alive and within the public gaze.

We are again fortunate to have assembled a great line up of speakers who have much to offer - their collective expertise is phenomenal!

This conference we have three keynote speakers.

Dr Ann Herraman from the Mt Lofty Districts Historical Society will present innovative ideas to invigorate historical groups and communities, Prof Mark McKenna from the University of Sydney will speak about his research for his award winning publication 'Looking for Blackfella's Point' while Dr Mathew Trinca, Director of the National Museum of Australia will present the final paper 'Object, Places, People: Reconnecting History and Heritage in Communities'.

Our speakers are from diverse backgrounds and disciplines and will give thought provoking presentations sure to fire the imaginations of anyone with an interest in history. We have expanded our Sunday morning forum to encourage groups and individuals to book a five minute spot to tell us of their successes, plans and dilemmas.

It is not all talk either - It is country hospitality with entertainment and drinks before a three course candlelit dinner in historic Galong House. Good food, good wine, music and good company. Our after dinner speaker is well known ABC Canberra radio presenter with after dinner speaker Genevieve Jacobs

For full details of the seminar featuring a great line up of speakers see the program.
